Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, convened and led an interactive briefing with delegations from Bangladesh, Egypt, Tajikistan, Malaysia, and Sudan on the sidelines of the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC-5.2) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The discussions focused on building regional consensus for a fair and effective Global Plastics Treaty and addressing inequities in green financing. Dr. Malik noted that the same countries responsible for high levels of plastic consumption are often the largest beneficiaries of green financing, while developing nations bear the brunt of plastic pollution’s environmental and socio-economic impacts.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advocating for equitable financing mechanisms, technology transfer, and capacity building, ensuring that support reaches the countries most affected by climate and environmental challenges.
