PR No.35 Islamabad

Interior Minister has taken strong notice of a media report which said that a candidate for local bodies belonging to Kot Momin was declared as ‘deceased’ as per the record of NADRA. The Interior Minister taking notice of the report called for a report from Chairman NADRA. According to the report submitted to Interior Minister the same day, the wife of the said person had obtained his death certificate from the concerned Union Council in 2011. Since Union Councils maintain birth and death records in those localities, therefore NADRA had also updated its record accordingly. The updated list was sent by NADRA to Election Commission for verification. As per the SOP, the list was displayed for the public information. Since no objection was received on the updated list, therefore the list was considered as final and was issued by NADRA. According to NADRA’s report the wife of the said candidate had also obtained her CNIC indicating her marital status as widow. In the light of these facts, the Interior Minister has asked Punjab Government to take strict action against the officials of the Union Council and those who were involved in forgery and fraud. In his statement the Interior Minister said that it is inappropriate to blame NADRA for fraud committed by any individual or through connivance of officials of any union council. The Minister called upon Punjab Government to take strict action against the involved so that such incidents could be brought to an end.
