PR No. 56 PAKISTAN-BAHRAIN BILATERAL POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS 2016 Islamabad

The inaugural session of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Kingdom of Bahrain was held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad on 13 July, 2016. Additional Secretary (Middle East), Mr Tasawar Khan led the Pakistani delegation. Bahraini delegation was led by H.E. Shaikha Rana Bint Isa-Bin Daij Al Khalifa, Assistant Under-Secretary for Arab and Afro-Asian Affairs.

 

Recalling the brotherly relations existing between Bahrain and Pakistan, the two sides underscored the similarity of perceptions on major regional and international issues. All issues of mutual interest were discussed and both sides expressed the desire to further strengthen these relations in diverse fields. During talks, a number of proposals to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation were discussed.

 

The two sides agreed to enhance business to business interaction to promote bilateral trade and investment. They also agreed to encourage joint ventures in the field of energy, export of manpower and increase cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, aviation and human resource development.

 

Pakistan side briefed the Bahraini delegation on Prime Minister’s peaceful neighborhood policy. Situation in Yemen and Syria also came under discussion.

 

During the visit, a landmark MoU was concluded by both sides on the establishment of King Hamad University of Nursing and Associated Medical Sciences in Islamabad. The University is the gift from King of Bahrain to the people of Pakistan. The university will have the capacity of educating and training 2000 nursing staff with 500 of them graduating annually. The Pakistani side expressed profound gratitude and conveyed that this University will further cement the brotherly relations between the two countries.

 

To pursue matters discussed in the Bilateral Political Consultations, the two sides agreed to work closely for the successful holding of the upcoming meeting of Joint Ministerial Commission between Pakistan and Bahrain in Islamabad on 23rd August 2016. The Commission provides a platform for expanding and strengthening cooperation in political, economic, social and cultural fields.
