PR No.216 NHA JOINS HANDS WITH NAB IN ‘SAY NO TO CORRUPTION’ CAMPAIGN Islamabad

Chairman National Highway Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar has said that elimination of corruption is imperative for attaining national progress and joint efforts were required to root out the evil of corruption from society. He said this while talking to NAB’s Director General (Awareness & Prevention), Ms. Aliya Rashid, who met him in his office today. The visiting guest underscored the need for a concerted effort in creating awareness against the menace of corruption and invited NHA to join hands with National Accountability Bureau in its campaign ‘Say No to corruption’ so that the message could be disseminated widely and more effectively.

The Chairman said that NHA was fully committed to NAB’s efforts as it was a national obligation. He emphasized on creating awareness against the ill-effects of corruption and said the societies without effective system of accountability and transparency cannot progress. He informed the visiting guest that NHA had initiated a comprehensive reform process under which the entire system was upgraded to make it free from manipulation. The procedure for award of works was streamlined. Similarly, powers were de-centralized with introduction of multiple layers of checks and balance. He said that substantial amounts were saved in various construction projects by virtue of these reforms.

It was decided in the meeting to jointly organize a seminar on the importance of transparency in national projects. The meeting also agreed to spread the message more aggressively through NHA’s advertisements and highway safety campaigns.
