PR NO. 215 PAKISTAN HANDS OVER 2ND CONSIGNMENT OF RELIEF GOOD FOR LANKAN FLOOD VICTIMS Islamabad

The High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka H.E. Maj. Gen. (R) Syed Shakeel Hussain handed over the second consignment of relief assistance for the Sri Lankan flood victims this morning to the Ministry of Disaster Management Sri Lanka, says a press release received here today from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The consignment was received on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management Mrs. Wasantha Samaraweera at Bandaranaike International Airport Katunayake.

The Pakistani Cargo Plane brought full load of the aircraft carrying relief items containing shelters and tents which were specified by the Sri Lankan authorities as immediate requirements for the flood victims.

According to the Sri Lankan government assessments, 427,918 people belonging to 105,360 families are affected by floods and landslides. The floods and landslides caused by torrential rains with gale force winds, fully damaged about 474 houses while 3,674 houses were left partially damaged.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had directed the relevant authorities, last week, to make immediate arrangements for provision of emergency relief goods to the flood victims in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly the first consignment of relief items containing generators, shelters, tents, medicines, etc. were handed over by the High Commissioner of Pakistan the Sri Lankan Minister for Disaster Management Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa M.P, on May 23rd , 2016.
