A formal ceremony was held at the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan to mark the commencement of the New Judicial Year 2026–27. The ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan; Hon’ble Judges of the Court; the Worthy Registrar; the Attorney General of Pakistan; the Vice Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council; the President, Supreme Court Bar Association; senior officers and officials of the Court; and members of the legal fraternity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Attorney General of Pakistan, Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan, highlighted the significance of the institutional journey of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan and underscored the importance of effective adjudication of constitutional questions, protection of fundamental rights, use of modern technology, and strengthening of public confidence. He observed that the judgments of the Court have far-reaching implications for the interpretation of the Constitution and the delineation of State authority.
The Vice Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council, Mr. Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti, emphasized the importance of constitutional stability, the rule of law, independence of the judiciary, and the prompt and fair administration of justice. He commended the seriousness, balance and constitutional insight demonstrated by the Court in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
The President, Supreme Court Bar Association, Mr. Haroon-ur-Rashid, expressed the hope that, as in the preceding year, the Court would continue to play an effective role in upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, strengthening the rule of law, protecting fundamental rights, ensuring timely administration of justice, and reinforcing public confidence.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, stated that the New Judicial Year was being commenced with a firm commitment to constitutional responsibility, judicial independence, transparency and the strengthening of public confidence. He stated that, within a brief period of approximately ten months, significant measures had been undertaken to develop the Court’s judicial and administrative framework, frame rules and regulations, establish a new directorate, introduce modern judicial systems, strengthen research and translation functions, and establish registries in all four provinces, with a view to facilitating greater access to constitutional justice.
Referring to the Court’s expanding international engagement, the Hon’ble Chief Justice highlighted the visits of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Türkiye, a high-level delegation from Bangladesh, and a delegation of Istanbul Bar Association No. 2; participation in the XIV St. Petersburg International Legal Forum; and the admission of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan as an Observer to the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY), describing these developments as significant milestones in the Court’s institutional progress. The Hon’ble Chief Justice further stated that the Court would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities in furtherance of the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, impartiality, judicial dignity and public confidence.
At the conclusion, it was reaffirmed that the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with complete fidelity to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and in accordance with the established principles of independence, impartiality, transparency and judicial dignity.
