Message from Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Pakistan Navy Day

Islamabad: September 07, 2026

On 8 September, we stand together as a proud nation to commemorate Pakistan Navy Day. I pay homage to all the officers, sailors and civilians of the Pakistan Navy, whose determination, courage and professional excellence have always made the nation proud.

The daring Pakistan Navy Operation SOMNATH against the heavily guarded Indian Naval coastal station Dwarka on the night of 7/8 September 1965 reminds us of our Navy’s glorious past. This operation was not only a demonstration of the bravery and tenacity of Pakistan Navy but also laid the foundations of a formidable force endowed with self-belief and unwavering commitment to strike terror in the heart of the enemy and bolster the country’s maritime defence.

Since the historic events of 1965, Pakistan Navy has continued to uphold the same spirit of courage and resolve in the defence of our maritime frontiers. During Marka-e-Haq, in May 2025, the Pakistan Navy played a vital role in protecting Pakistan’s maritime interests by deterring the adversary through its operational readiness and forward deployments. This kept the numerically superior Indian Navy at bay and denied it any opportunity to imperil Pakistan’s maritime security.

More recently, amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Pakistan Navy has demonstrated its resolve and commitment to preserve national security through Operation MUHAFIZ-UL-BAHR. Pakistan Navy made swift and significant contributions in preserving the country’s energy security and economic lifelines by ensuring continuity of our vital sea-borne energy supplies.

Pakistan Navy is also modernising its capabilities in line with contemporary technological advancements. The induction of modern warships, strategically significant HANGOR-class submarine, jet aircraft, unmanned systems and indigenous long-range missiles reflect its focus and determination to maintain a contemporary and potent maritime force capable of safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime interests.

Besides ensuring national security and territorial integrity of our sea frontiers, Pakistan Navy remains actively engaged in maritime diplomacy and regional security. Through multinational Exercise AMAN and the AMAN Dialogue, Pakistan Navy fosters international cooperation under the banner of ‘Together for Peace’. Furthermore, Pakistan Navy continues to serve as a reliable “first responder” during national and regional emergencies by providing vital humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

As we navigate complex maritime challenges, I reaffirm the State’s steadfast commitment to continuing modernisation and capacity building of our Armed Forces. I have complete faith in Pakistan Navy that with its high standards of professionalism and technological edge it will continue to protect our maritime interests with courage, honour and proficiency.
