Pakistan, Iran Agree on Measures to Expand Bilateral Trade

Islamabad: August 5, 2026

Pakistan and Iran concluded the 10th Session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee with a commitment to deepen economic cooperation and work towards the shared target of US$10 billion in annual trade.

The concluding session was co-chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Dr. Mohammad Atabak. The two ministers signed the Agreed Minutes reflecting the understandings reached during the two-day deliberations.

Both sides welcomed progress on the proposed Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Agreement, including Rules of Origin, tariff-reduction modalities and product lists.

The meeting also focused on expanding barter trade, strengthening business-to-business linkages, promoting industrial cooperation and investment, increasing private-sector participation, and activating joint border markets.

The two countries agreed to improve trade facilitation, customs coordination, transport, logistics and border infrastructure to ensure the smooth movement of commercial cargo, particularly perishable goods.

Jam Kamal Khan said the agreed measures would help transform the historic and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran into stronger economic cooperation.

Dr. Mohammad Atabak reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to removing trade barriers and expanding bilateral economic and commercial relations.

Both ministers emphasized sustained coordination and timely implementation of the decisions before the next Joint Trade Committee meeting.

The session concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a reaffirmation of the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Iran.
