Mr. Mohammad Naciri, Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of UN Women, called on H.E. Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, to discuss avenues for further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Government of Pakistan and UN Women in advancing women's rights, gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, and inclusive governance.
The UN Women delegation included Mr. Jamshed M. Kazi, Country Representative, UN Women Pakistan, and Ms. Fahmida Iqbal Khan, Deputy Country Representative, UN Women Pakistan.
Welcoming the delegation, the Federal Minister appreciated UN Women's continued partnership with Pakistan and highlighted the Ministry of Human Rights' close collaboration with the organization in promoting gender equality, improving access to justice, and advancing policies that safeguard the rights of women and girls.
The meeting reviewed progress on the draft National Policy on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG), developed with UN Women's technical support through extensive consultations with provincial governments, civil society, and academia.
The Minister emphasized the Government's commitment to finalizing a comprehensive national policy framework to strengthen prevention, protection, and response mechanisms for women and girls.
The two sides also discussed the forthcoming SAARC Conference, recognizing its significance as a regional platform for promoting cooperation on gender equality, women's rights, and inclusive development across South Asia.
The discussions also focused on strengthening Pakistan's gender data ecosystem to support evidence-based policymaking, improve accountability, and enhance reporting under international commitments, including CEDAW and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The two sides further explored cooperation on women's economic empowerment, digital inclusion, and responsible AI, including efforts to address technology-facilitated violence against women and girls.
During the meeting, Mr. Mohammad Naciri presented a letter of appreciation from the Executive Director of UN Women to the Federal Minister, acknowledging Pakistan's successful hosting of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, its assumption of the Chairmanship for the next two years, and its leadership in advancing women's empowerment and gender equality. He also expressed UN Women's commitment to further strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored Pakistan's resolve to further strengthen collaboration with UN Women in promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and girls, and advancing inclusive and sustainable development through strong institutions, effective policies, and international cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to deepening cooperation in support of women's empowerment and the advancement of gender equality in Pakistan.
