In a befitting prelude to the global football season, the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C. organized the Diplomatic Trionda Cup 2026. The friendly soccer tournament, held exactly three hours prior to the official opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026, served as a distinguished gathering celebrating friendship, unity, sportsmanship, and diplomatic camaraderie.
The event formed an important part of the ongoing series commemorating the Semi quincentennial (250th Anniversary) of the United States. It simultaneously spotlighted Pakistan’s enduring contributions to the global sporting goods industry through Trionda – a premium soccer ball, proudly manufactured in Pakistan - being used for the World Cup.
“Trionda is our gift to the US nation celebrating 250 anniversary of its Independence and holding the World Cup” said Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh in his remarks while inaugurating the Quadrangular tournament. “It symbolizes Pakistan’s preference for sprots grounds over battlegrounds in the interest of global peace as well as progress and prosperity of mankind”, he added.
The spectators included members of the diplomatic corps, senior U.S. government officials, and football enthusiasts, uniting for highlighting the shared values, people-to-people linkages and international goodwill through sports.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr. Paul Kapur, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest, personally leading the soccer team representing the U.S. Department of State.
Hosted by Pakistan, the tournament featured active participation from diplomatic missions, including Denmark, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Singapore, Nigeria, Egypt, and China.
The Ambassador informed the spectators that Trionda was a smart soccer ball, and a symbol of precision, performance, and Prowers manufactured in Sialkot, being the world’s premier hub for high-quality sports goods and surgical instruments.
More than just a friendly sporting event, the Diplomatic Trionda Cup 2026 highlighted how the spirit of the game connects people, showcasing Pakistan's, craftsmanship, and by role on the world’s grandest sporting stage.
