MESSAGE BY SENATOR AZAM NAZEER TARAR, FEDERAL MINISTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Islamabad: June 12, 2026

“World Day Against Child Labour reminds us that every child has the right to education, protection, dignity, and the opportunity to realize their full potential. Child labour deprives children of these fundamental rights and hinders their prospects for a secure future.

Despite ongoing efforts, many children remain vulnerable to exploitation and are denied the opportunity to learn, develop, and reach their full potential. Protecting children from labour that threatens their well-being is essential for building a just, inclusive, and prosperous society.

The Constitution of Pakistan provides important safeguards for children. Article 11 prohibits the employment of children in hazardous occupations, while Article 25-A guarantees free and compulsory education. Pakistan has further strengthened its commitment through the ratification of ILO Conventions No. 138 and No. 182 on child labour.

The Government of Pakistan continues to strengthen child protection systems, expand access to education, and support vulnerable families through social protection initiatives. However, eliminating child labour requires the shared efforts of government institutions, communities, employers, civil society, parents, and educators.

On this day, let us renew our commitment to building a Pakistan where every child is safe, educated, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to society. Protecting children from exploitation is both our legal responsibility and our moral obligation.”
