The Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, was called on today at Parliament House by the Chief Information Commissioner, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, along with a Member of the Pakistan Information Commission. The Chairman Senate welcomed the delegation and termed the interaction important for strengthening institutional coordination.
During the meeting, the Chairman Senate observed that the completion of three years since the establishment of the Pakistan Information Commission marks a significant milestone. He noted that this reflects the Commission’s growing institutional capacity, improved service delivery, and increasing public awareness regarding the right of access to information.
He emphasized that transparency is a fundamental principle of governance that fosters public trust, strengthens institutions, and supports informed decision-making. Appreciating the role of the Commission, he stated that it is playing an important role in ensuring implementation of the right of access to information law, addressing public grievances, and promoting proactive disclosure by public bodies.
The Chairman Senate further highlighted the importance of maintaining institutional balance and adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks while advancing transparency objectives.
He expressed confidence that enhanced coordination, clarity in procedures, and effective implementation mechanisms will further strengthen the transparency regime and contribute to improved governance standards.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Chief Information Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui presented the Commission’s bi-annual report to the Chairman Senate and conveyed his good wishes.
