Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry here on Monday announced the formation of a committee, to assess the water issues of Port Qasim.
The body comprising Port Qasim Authority board members and its officials will submit recommendations by the end of April, including a comprehensive 25-year sustainability plan with associated costs.
The minister made these remarks during a visit to Port Qasim, where officials briefed him on ongoing development projects, future investment plans, infrastructure upgrades, industrial expansion, logistics improvements, and the textile city initiative. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he stressed timely project completion to handle increased cargo volumes and modern shipping needs.
Junaid Chaudhry highlighted accelerated efforts for land reforms and new investment opportunities around the port. Key initiatives include a multipurpose terminal to boost cargo handling and diversify capabilities, as well as the Eastern Industrial Zone to attract local and foreign investors.
He directed authorities to expedite critical projects like a treatment plant and dual carriageway, essential for operational efficiency and environmental management. The minister also reviewed the "Sea to Steel" project, which will link maritime trade to industrial growth and reduce import dependence, alongside renewable energy proposals for wind and solar power to cut reliance on conventional sources.
Junaid Chaudhry further detailed Coastal Economic Zone positioning it as a hub for industrial and commercial activities.
He underscored that these combined efforts, infrastructure modernization, industrial expansion, and investment facilitation will enhance Port Qasim's competitiveness, drive job creation, and solidify its role as a pillar of Pakistan's blue economy.
