Second Meeting of Pakistan Nursing Council Held at Ministry of National Health Services

The second meeting of the Pakistan Nursing Council was held at the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination. Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal addressed the members of the Council and emphasized the critical importance of the nursing profession within the country’s healthcare system.

Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Health Minister stated that the nursing profession plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of the healthcare system. He highlighted that the quality of patient care largely depends on the professional competence and dedication of nursing staff.

The Minister noted that Pakistan is currently facing a shortage of nearly 900,000 nurses, while the global demand for nurses stands at approximately 2.5 million. He stressed that strengthening and making the Pakistan Nursing Council more effective is essential to achieve the required targets in the nursing sector.

Syed Mustafa Kamal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restructuring the Pakistan Nursing Council along modern lines in accordance with international standards. He emphasized that practical steps are necessary to restore the institution’s credibility and ensure merit and transparency in its operations.

“You are all professionals and must work collectively to restore the reputation of the institution,” the Minister said, urging council members to take strong measures to address issues that have affected the image of the nursing profession.

The Federal Minister further stated that Pakistan possesses immense potential in the field of nursing. He called for the promotion of high-quality nursing colleges that can produce skilled nurses capable of not only serving Pakistan but also representing the country internationally.

He added that strengthening the nursing sector would help meet domestic healthcare needs while also addressing the growing global demand for nurses, ultimately contributing to valuable foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan.

During the meeting, Special Secretary Health Aslam Ghauri was elected as President of the Pakistan Nursing Council, while Dr. Syed Ali Farhan Razi was elected as Vice President of the Council.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen the nursing profession and ensure reforms aimed at improving standards, governance, and the global competitiveness of Pakistan’s nursing workforce.
