The Chairman Senate of Pakistan held a telephonic conversation with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Sunday to discuss the evolving regional situation and matters of mutual interest.
During the conversation, the Chairman Senate conveyed Pakistan’s strong solidarity with the Government and people of Azerbaijan in the wake of the recent drone attacks on Azerbaijani territory. He noted that such attacks constitute a violation of international law and the principles governing relations between sovereign states, and emphasized that actions of this nature undermine regional peace and stability.
The Chairman Senate stated that Pakistan fully understands Azerbaijan’s security concerns and reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security. He also referred to the recent telephonic conversation between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the President of Azerbaijan on 6 March, as well as the contact between the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan and the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan on 5 March, which conveyed Pakistan’s strong support and solidarity.
Highlighting the close and longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, the Chairman Senate reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to stand by Azerbaijan. He underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of reducing tensions and ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, and stressed the importance of restraint by all sides.
The Chairman Senate also expressed profound appreciation to the Government of Azerbaijan for facilitating the evacuation of Pakistani nationals from Iran. He noted that 113 Pakistani nationals had been safely evacuated through the Astara border crossing between Azerbaijan and Iran, where the Azerbaijani authorities extended cooperation by granting visas on arrival and facilitating their onward travel.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan thanked the Chairman Senate for Pakistan’s strong expression of support and solidarity during the current situation. She reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to its close relations with Pakistan and appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic and political backing.
Both sides expressed confidence that the strong partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan will continue to contribute positively to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and beyond.
