First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, MNA, inaugurated road rehabilitation and expansion schemes near Sultan Mori and Colonel Mori in the 60-Mile area of Shaheed Benazirabad.
The First Lady inaugurated the rehabilitation of roads from Mehran Highway (Bandhi) to 60-Mile and 3-Chak Road at Colonel Mori, as well as from Bandhi–Sultan Mori Road to 3-Chak. The projects are aimed at improving regional connectivity and easing movement for local communities.
Provincial Minister for Health, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, senior officers and party workers were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said that improving roads in rural areas remains a priority of Pakistan Peoples Party. She noted that better roads help people travel more easily and also support education, healthcare and local economic activity.
She said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had envisioned bringing underdeveloped and rural areas into the mainstream of development, adding that this vision was being carried forward under the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
The First Lady said that once completed, the projects would strengthen regional connectivity, reduce travel time and help farmers transport agricultural produce to markets more efficiently. She added that improved road quality would also contribute to safer travel and better traffic flow.
Executive Engineer Provincial Highway, Shaheed Benazirabad, Asim Ali Abro briefed the First Lady on the projects.
He informed that the Bandhi–Sultan Mori Road to 3-Chak rehabilitation project is in its final stages. The 17-kilometre road will benefit around 12 thousand people in 13 villages, improving access to Mehran Highway, supporting employment, trade and basic services. The project cost Rs 335.154 million and began in FY 2022–23, with completion scheduled for FY 2024–25. The road width has been maintained at 12 feet.
The road rehabilitation, improvement and expansion project from Mehran Highway (Bandhi) to 60-Mile and 3-Chak Road at Colonel Mori via Chutto Pitafi, Mir Hassan Jamali, Muhammad Yaqoob Mir Jatt and Sultan Mori has been completed. The 27-kilometre road includes 8.50 kilometres of reconditioning and widening of 18.50 kilometres from 12 feet to 18 feet. The project began in FY 2021–22 and was completed in FY 2023–24, at a cost of Rs 738.479 million.
The scheme connects 31 villages and several Union Councils, including Somer Khan Jamali, Amir Ji Obhari Sawari, Khair Shah and Chak Saheelo. Overall, the projects are expected to benefit around 39,000 people by improving access to transport, trade, education and healthcare.
