In a panel discussion on the trade of used textiles and circularity in Pakistan, the Minister of Climate Change addressed key points. The Minister emphasized that Pakistan has the potential to emerge as a regional hub for the trade of used textiles. The Minister further stated that Pakistan has been using used textiles since childhood, and they are naturally beneficial. The Minister highlighted that other countries are also following the same path and benefiting from Pakistan’s experiences. The Minister stressed the importance of green textiles and the use of 100% renewable materials. He stated that improper reuse of textiles harms the environment and impacts the food chain, which is unsustainable and unacceptable. The Minister emphasized the need for greater awareness on this subject and pointed out that the lack of technology remains a significant challenge. He called for a clear definition of recycling and circularity. In his concluding remarks, the Minister stated that Pakistan should focus on the export and trade of textiles, which would benefit the country’s economy. The Minister further added, “We are going green not because of your conditions, but for the future of our generations. Whether you support us or not, we will do it. Regardless of the circumstances, we will make it happen and improve the environment.”
