MOU SIGNED TO ENHANCE CLIMATE RESILIENCE THROUGH RESEARCH INNOVATION AT PAKISTAN PAVILION COP29

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for climate diplomacy was signed at the Pakistan Pavilion during COP29, attended by Prime Minister's Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam. The MoU, signed by Bilal Anwar of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) and Amna Munawwar Awan of the Center for Climate Diplomacy of Pakistan (CCDP), aims to enhance climate resilience through research, training, and innovation. Speaking on the occasion, Amna Munawwar highlighted the focus on collaborative research to tackle Pakistan's climate challenges and the launch of training programs for professionals and communities. A key initiative is an innovation virtual lab for young entrepreneurs and students to develop climate solutions. She said the partnership will also enhance international climate finance coordination and explore emerging technologies like AI and blockchain to improve disaster response. Amna Munawwar emphasized regional cooperation to manage transboundary climate risks, recognizing that climate change transcends national borders and added: The collaboration aims to position Pakistan as a leader in global climate policy discussions, advocating for equitable resource access and sustainable development goals. "This initiative marks a significant step in building climate resilience in Pakistan, fostering innovation, and empowering communities against climate change impacts", Amna, President of Center for Climate Diplomacy of Pakistan stated.
