National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) held its 74th Board Meeting which was simultaneously arranged to bid farewell to board members of the 7th Commission. Chairperson NCSW Ms. Nilofar Bakhtiar chaired the meeting which was attended by Secretary NCSW Mr. Khwaja Imran Raza, along with the Provincial Chairpersons i.e Sindh, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, & Balochistan. The meeting was additionally attended by the board members of the NCSW from each Province of the country, and representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights, Finance and Law & Justice. Federal Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada also attended this meeting as chief guest at the closing session of the meeting. The meeting started with a round of introductions from all participants. The Chairperson then gained approval of three resolutions including NCSW’s apolitical legal support & their stance with justice in terms of the recent imprisonment of female politicians in context to the recent political events. The second and third resolution pertained to the technicalities of the board members of the NCSW i.e. financial compensation and the new board. Activities and initiatives taken by the Commission since 9th June 2020 were discussed including several provincial tours taken by the Chair and respective members, the NCSW Strategic Plan, the bills introduced by the Commission i.e. Child Marriage Bill & Reserved Seats Bill, 16 Days of Activism, visits to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, and the Research Reports created. The challenges including the appointment of the Chair of the Punjab and GB Commissions on the Status of Women, the consistent violence faced by organizations on Women’s Day and the lack of human and fiscal resources of the Commission were thoroughly navigated and deliberated upon. In his address at the closing session, Federal Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada emphasized the importance of the federal and provincial Commissions on the Status of Women and appreciated the work that has been done by the board thus far. He committed to working hand in hand within his full capacity to support the National Commission on the Status of Women. The meeting concluded with all members and officials partaking in the meeting renewing and reaffirming their commitment to creating a nation of peace through gender parity and equal opportunity of all citizens regardless of their sex. At the end board members, whose tenures were ending, each gave her farewell remarks.
