On the invitation of Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, a delegation of lawyers held a meeting with the Law Minister in the Ministry of Law and Justice today. The delegation of lawyers included members of Pakistan Bar Council, Vice Chairman Islamabad Bar Council, Vice Chairman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Vice Chairman Sindh Bar Council, Chairman Legal Education Committee Balochistan & Sindh Bar Councils and others. The delegation of lawyers held a detailed meeting with the Federal Minister for Law and Justice. On the assurances of the Federal Law Minister, the lawyers delegation agreed to postpone their sit-in call scheduled for 15 December. On the demand to withdraw the curative review petition against Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the Law Minister apprised the delegation that approval has been obtained from the Federal Cabinet in this regard and the delegation will be informed regarding further development on the matter. On the demand regarding grants to the Bar Councils/associations, the Law Minister said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the lawyers grant has been made a part of the Federal Budget and finance bill. On the demand to introduce the Lawyers Protection Bill, the Law Minister explained that the work on the said bill is being done rapidly and consultations are being held with the provinces to finalize the bill. The bill will be finalized after consultation with a six member committee comprising of all the Provinces/Islamabad and Pakistan Bar Council representatives. The Federal Law Minister further assured that a meeting of the lawyers delegation will be arranged with the Prime Minister and the demands of lawyers will be presented before the Prime Minister. The delegation of lawyers apprised the Law Minister about various other problems faced by the lawyer community, on which the Law Minister assured full cooperation and immediate steps to solve the problems. In the said meeting, detailed discussion was also held regarding the introduction of the Bar Vocational Course for the training of young lawyers in the light of the orders of the Supreme Court.
