Federal Minister for Science & Technology Shibli Faraz directed PCRWR to start work on a pilot project for water conservation in Islamabad. He made these remarks while chairing a meeting regarding the issues related to water conservation in the country at Ministry of Science of Technology, today. Chairman PCRWR Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Member IRSA Asjad Imtiaz, Member IRSA Zahid Abbass and Country Director IWMI, Dr Arif Anwar attended the meeting. During the meeting, it was decided that Ministry of Science and Technology in partnership with IWMI-Pakistan will hold a national conference on emerging water challenges followed by an international conference. These conferences would be held within the mandate of PCRWR. Federal Minister emphasized that the purpose of these conferences should be to review water related issues, the existing knowledge and develop a research agenda for future investment in water sector. Federal Minister stated that Groundwater and surface water Management are critical areas, thus PCRWR should pursue further research on these issues. He stressed the need for maintaining a data repository to be maintained by PCRWR. He said that data of research projects must be translated into policy actions which must contribute in the socio-economic development of the country.
