“The Security Council determined that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will and should be enabled to exercise their right of self-determination through free and fair plebiscite under the United Nations auspices” said the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram while speaking at the webinar titled "Human Rights crisis in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir" on August 6th, 2020, as a keynote speaker, says a press release received here today from New York.
The Ambassador stated that “India has inducted force of nine hundred thousand troops in Occupied Kashmir, that has been called the densest occupation in the world”.
“And today we face the situation where Mr. Modi has closed all doors of dialogue and a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute looks much more difficult. ”, he further added.
The Ambassador while highlighting the recent meeting of UNSC convened on 5th of August, the day when last year India revoked article 370 of its constitution to alter the demography of the Kashmir region, stated that: Pakistan took the matter to the Security Council on 16th of August last year after 40 years.”
“It is a new generation that has to be informed about the Kashmiri cause and therefore we have set out the case for Kashmir, the case that Pakistan has always upheld for Kashmir legal basis of our position for circulation and official document of the United Nations Security Council”: He insisted.
We have circulated a document which categorizes a catalogue of human rights violations that have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir. This is a comprehensive compendium of the atrocities taking place and will serve to inform the governments of the world of the reality of the plight of the Kashmiri people: the Ambassador informed.
“This is a part of our strategy to seek the endorsement for the rights of the Kashmiris and the legitimacy of the cause from peoples and officials all over the world. We are making efforts with the media, with Academics, civil society, human rights organization, legislatures in various parts of the world and of course, with the United Nations and Security Council in particular.
The webinar was organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles. Other notable speakers included H.E.
