PR No. 178 JAPAN’S AMBASSADOR CALLS ON NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER TO DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS AND REGIONAL SECURITY SITUATION Islamabad: April 20, 2017

Ambassador of Japan called on National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd) Nasser Khan Janjua in Islamabad this morning.

They discussed matters pertaining to development of bilateral relations and emerging security situation in South Asia and Asia-Pacific.

The Ambassador of Japan informed that Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Nobuo Kishi, will visit Pakistan next month to mark the 65th anniversary of inception of their diplomatic relations. Nobuo Kishi is brother of present Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and the grandson of former Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Nobusuke Kishi, who was the first Japanese Prime Minister to visit Pakistan in 1957.

National Security Adviser welcomed the forthcoming visit by Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs. Recalling their previous meeting in Tokyo, Gen Janjua called him a man of vision and a friend of Pakistan. He hoped that the visit would further strengthen Pak-Japan bilateral relations.

The two also exchanged views on latest developments in South-Asia and Asia-Pacific regions. Ambassador of Japan expressed his country’s concern over mounting tensions in the Korean Peninsula. General Janjua shared his concerns and hoped that the evolving tension will be mitigated by peaceful means. NSA also apprised the Ambassador about Pakistan’s efforts to forge cooperative relations with all its neighbours on the basis of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
