PR No. 253 “Ministry of Climate Change works along with sector partners to tackle the huge task to improve access to health, education, water and sanitation”, Zahid Hamid Islamabad: September 29, 2016

Federal Minister of Justice, Law and Climate Change Zahid Hamid held a meeting with dignitaries of Water Aid at Ministry of climate Change.

He said that, “ Water Aid remains a value partner in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector and provides technical and financial assistance to support governments to fulfill the national and international commitments”

Water Aid along with key sector partners organized the second Pakistan Conference on Sanitation under the guidance of Ministry of Climate Change” Federal Minister said.

Zahid Hamid also said that, “Ministry of Climate Change works along with sector partners to tackle the huge task of eradication of extreme poverty, hunger and inequality, take action on climate change and the environment, and improve access to health, education, water and sanitation.

Ms. Barbara Frost, Chief Executive of water aid said that, “water aid has been working on National Behavior Campaign which is a four years countrywide campaign for behavior change which aims to prompt “ordinary people”, as well as those in positions of authority, to change their knowledge, attitudes and practices related to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene that will contribute to save lives and improve the health and well being of communities in Pakistan.”

She also mentioned that, “we gather that at federal level, the important mandate to work for sanitation services in urban areas was provided recently to the ministry of Climate Change.”

She further added that, “the mandate to coordinate, monitor and report on WASH aspects also rests with the Ministry.

They also discussed many points on introducing water Aid as a global organization and its work, water Aid’s new country program strategy and possible collaboration with Ministry of Climate Change on achieving common objectives for the sector strengthening and issues related to ground water extraction in Pakistan and Ministry of climate Change role in regulating the same.

Federal Minister assured them of cooperation and full support in this regard.

Ms. Olga Ghazaryan, Director (IP), Mr. Tom Palakudiyil, HOR (South Asia) and Mr. Syed Abu Ahmed Akif , Secretary of Ministry of Climate Change also participated in this meeting.
