Today, Captain (Navy) Axel Ristau, Branch Head of International Security Policy & Bilateral Relations, Federal Republic of Germany with Col Klaus Wilhelm Wolf, Defence Attache called on Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi, Additional Secretary Defence, Ministry of Defence, Rawalpindi. During this call matters of mutual interest were discussed. Both sides were agreed to collaborate with each other in all fields of bilateral interest.
Later, the visiting German delegation held formal meeting with dealing Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence. During this meeting, matters of defence interest were discussed. It was unanimously agreed that there is a wide scope of moving forward and sharing experiences with each other on matters like border management, handling of refugees / IDPs, sharing knowledge on radicalization centers established in Pakistan. The prevailing political and security situation in the region was also came under discussion.
Visits of Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, German Minister of Defence to Pakistan in December 2015 and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Defence to Munich in February 2017 were considered as major steps for promotion of relations between Pakistan and Germany.
The meeting was ended with the understanding that in future such like visits will be encouraged for enhancement of defence cooperation.
German delegation is also scheduled to visit Joint Staff Headquarters, Tri-Services Headquarters. On 29th March 2017, they are also scheduled to visit defence production Units at Wah, Taxila and Kamra.
