PR No. 160 Statistics Division should focus on poverty mapping for targeted resource allocation: Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar Islamabad: December 24, 2018

Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform & Statistics Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar visited Statistics Division today wherein he was given a detailed briefing on the working and functions of the ministry by Secretary Statistics Ms. Shaista Sohail. It is pertinent to mention that the Prime Minister assigned the additional portfolio of Ministry of statistics to Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar on December 12, 2018. The minister said that Statistics Division has an important role to play as it provides a solid statistical base to national and international planners, policy makers, researchers and other data users in various socio-economic sectors. The minister stated that the ministry should focus on improving the data quality to make need based policy interventions. ‘The ministry should also work on poverty mapping for targeted resource allocation’, underlined the minister. The minister directed that the mechanism should be devised to educate the public on economic statistics especially the trends in consumer price index (CPI) and inflation. There is also a need to compile data about the extent to which profiteering and hoarding adds to inflation which affects the general public. *****
