While attending the protest of the relatives of missing persons against the Enforced Disappearances, on the eve of World day against Enforced Disappearances, Dr Shireen M Mizari, Federal Minister for Human Rights condemned the Unlawful Enforced Disappearances and announced to bring a law to declare enforced disappearances a heinous criminal offence in Pakistan. Relatives of missing persons protested in Islamabad on Friday evening. Besides Amna Janjua,Farhat Ullah Babar a large number of people participated to express solidarity with the family members of missing persons. Addressing the protest, Dr Mizari said that Enforced Disappearances is against the basic democratic values and worst violation of the principles of the Constitution of Pakistan. She further added that it is a crime and Police should be trained to tackle with these sort of cases and all the perpetrators should be brought before the court of law in accordance with the rule of law and right to fair trial instead of making people victims of enforced disappearances. “We have a very clear and crystal policy for the families of the missing persons. We will bring a special law for them very soon and will find out a permanent solution for this worst problem”, she further added. She said that a committee should be formed with all stakeholders including the families of missing persons for the closure of this issue. Dr. Mazari further reiterated her firm resolution and commitment to materialize all the promises, made by PM Imran Khan including this issue. These sort of acts, if allowed to happen, are the worst transgression of the democratic norms and rule of law and our Government will take all the possible measures to prevail rule of law in Pakistan.
