Minister for Law and Justice Syed Ali Zafar while chairing a meeting of the committee constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for facilitating FATA’s and PATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday said that the same kind of amenities to the people of Fata should be given that are available to the people of other regions. He said that there should not be any discrimination in development, as tribal people are also equal citizens of the country. The committee decided that as a result of the merger all the Federal and Provincial laws had become immediately applicable to the areas of Fata and forth will all fundamental and human rights will be available to the people of Fata. However, there was a need to assure that the infrastructure, the system of administration of Justice, maintenance of peace of good governance in the areas as prevailing in the province of KPK was made available for the full benefit to be accrued to the people. For this purpose an Interim arrangement had to be made immediately. The committee also decided that a legal framework needs to be given for the maintenance of peace and good governance in the areas which comprises tribal Districts and Sub-Divisions. Federal Minister reviewed the recommendations tabled by the two sub-committees that he constituted in the last meeting to sort out financial matters as well as drafting rules and laws to facilitate the merger process. Syed Ali Zafar also discussed the matters related to tax exemptions and concessions to the people of FATA. He said issues of FATA/PATA shall be resolved on urgent and priority basis and merger implementation process must be made smooth and successful at all costs. The federal and provincial committees working for facilitating FATA’s and PATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will hold a meeting in KPK on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Secretary SAFRON, Secretary Planning, Representatives MO Directorate GHQ, ACS FATA, AS PM office, Secretary Finance KPK, Secretary Home KPK and other officials from Ministry of Law& Justice, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, SAFRON Ministry, Ministry of Finance and FBR. *****
