President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have bravely faced the menace of terrorism which led to the stability in the region. The President said this while talking to Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake who along-with a delegation called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Wednesday. The President emphasized that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have exemplary relations. He underlined that Pakistan is proud of its friendship with Sri Lanka and we are having close cooperation with our sincere friend in different fields including the fight against terrorism. He underscored that Pakistan was also subjected to terrorism like Sri Lanka but we have largely overcome this scourge with the national unity and bravery of our Armed Forces. Our nation has laid numerous sacrifices on this path, he added. He stated that peace has been restored in the country and the business activities are being conducted as usual, moreover, foreign investors and traders are giving preference to Pakistan. The President stressed that friendly relations with all countries especially neighbour countries is the basis of our foreign policy but the longstanding issue of Kashmir is a major challenge for the region which is also a cause of great concern for us. We want that the international community and organizations should play their role in this regard, he said. On this occasion, Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake thanked the President. He hoped that bilateral cooperation between the two countries will further grow in future. He stated that Pakistan is the cradle of Buddhism which is also a shared heritage of both nations and he is very pleased to visit Pakistan.
