Mr. Jean Francois Cautain, the European Union Ambassador to Pakistan met National Security Adviser Lt. Gen (R) Nasser Khan Janjua this evening. Matters pertaining to regional security situation with a particular reference to NSA’s recent visit to Afghanistan, were discussed. In the backdrop of NSA’s recent visit to Afghanistan, the envoy sought his opinion on the issues of reconciliation and internal political peace process in Afghanistan. NSA explained the fragile security situation in Afghanistan at length. He also highlighted the complexities of the perpetual conflict in Afghanistan and underscored that a cooperative framework by all was direly needed to resolve conflict in Afghanistan. He stressed the need of making best use of the peace offer made by President Ghani “It is first time in 16 years that the peace is being given a chance. Earlier every body was investing in war. Let us all work together and invest in the peace this time” he added. The envoy expressed his commitment to advance European Union's contribution to deliver lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and in the region. He also acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and for regional peace and stability. “EU recognizes the challenges faced by Pakistan and appreciates the way Pakistan is responding to those challenges.” he added. Both sides agreed that everyone has to contribute in seeking peace in Afghanistan which will enhance the regional security as well. ***** ?
