The Pakistan Day was celebrated in Canberra with national zeal and fervour. A reception was hosted at the Pakistan High commission, Canberra. Her Excellency, Lyndall Sachs, the Chief of Protocol of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was the chief guest at the reception, says a press release received from Canberra here today. It was a very well attended event in which a large number of members of diplomatic corps, local intelligentsia, media representatives, high ranking Australian government officials and Pakistani community from Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and participated. The guests ware received by Pakistani children attired in regional dresses. The High Commissioner, Naela Chohan, while emphasising the importance of Pakistan-Australia bilateral relations elucidated on the significance of Pakistan Day. She highlighted the fast-economic progress in the country under the democratically elected government. She reiterated that Pakistan was poised to become a regional economic power and underscored the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Australia in diverse fields. The High Commissioner expresses satisfaction that the bilateral relations were close and cordial. The Australian military band played the national anthems of the two countries. Traditional Pakistani food was deeply appreciated by the guests. The reception was preceded by a dignified early morning ceremony in which the High Commissioner, Naela Chohan hoisted the flag and offered dua-e-khair for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
