Mr. John Ging, Director Operation UNOCHA New York, who is also Lead Advisor to Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs called on Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt. General Omar Mahmood Hayat HI(M) here on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Mr. Neil Bhune, UN Country Representative in Pakistan and Ms. Heli Uusikyla, Head of OCHA Pakistan. Role of UNOCHA in preparedness and strengthening the institutional capacities came under discussion during the meeting. Mr. John Ging appreciated the Government of Pakistan's support to World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) and Pakistan's contributions to global and regional initiatives. He reiterated United Nation’s commitment to work closely with Pakistan on building capacities to extent humanitarian assistance and ensure quick response in the presence of threats attributed to Climate Change, earthquakes, floods and droughts. Chairman NDMA while speaking to the delegation highlighted that during last decade NDMA Pakistan had evolved as a potent Disaster Management Organization with effective timely interventions and coordination in emergencies and extension of its appropriate humanitarian response in the times of disasters. Lt. General Omar highlighted the importance of close coordination between NDMA and UN Agencies and said that he looked forward to continued role of OCHA in coordination between humanitarian partners and NDMA for a resilient Pakistan.
