President
Mamnoon Hussain has said that Quetta terrorist attack is a conspiracy to
destroy the religious harmony in the country which will be thwarted by the
unity of the nation. He added that the nation has shown great evidence of its
unity by expressing huge support to the victims of terrorism.
The President said this while addressing the
convocation of Baqai Medical University (BMU) in Karachi on
Monday. Vice Chancellor BMU Dr. Zahida Baqai also spoke on the occasion.
The
President stated that entire country especially Balochistan and Karachi have
been mired in different problems due to political instability and rise of
terrorism in the region during the last several decades. He emphasized that
National political leadership and other institutions should play their role to
overcome these problems for development of the country and welfare of the
masses.
The
President said that the whole country is in a state of grief and sorrow due to
the attack on the Church in Quetta. He pointed out that the enemy has very
cleverly chosen the time of attack when the Christian community was preparing
to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. He underlined that the objective
behind attacking the religious places of Christian is to destabilise the
country by disturbing its religious harmony. He underscored the need for
fighting these few terrorists with unity.
The
President stated that different parts of the country especially Balochistan and
Karachi have faced in various challenges adding that such issues have affected
other parts of the country as well. The major reasons behind it are the decades
of political instability and situation arising from the rise of terrorism in
the region, he said. He stressed that National political leadership and other
institutions have worked diligently to overcome these problems and this process
is still going on. As a result of these efforts situation has improved in
Karachi and Balochistan, he added. He underlined that it is the duty of
National leadership, Ulemas, intellectuals, academics and especially the youth
to keep an eye on the national and international affairs and try to comprehend
the changes taking place in the region so that the obstacles in the path of
progress can be removed in addition to thwarting the rise of such situations in
future. The President said that medicine is not
only a profession but also a mean to serve humanity and our traditions are
remarkable in this regard. In Muslim societies, doctors not only used to treat
patients but they were considered as a compassionate leader and respected elder
who raised the standard of his profession in comparison to the other
professions by making it a divine vocation, he added. He emphasized that it is
necessary to strengthen this beautiful custom to promote good traditions in the
society. He highlighted that growing materialism has also affected the
profession of medicine and its reasons are the rise in the needs and expenses
of the people.
He
stated that this situation has also badly affected the relationship between the
doctors and patients. He advised the children to follow the traditions of
morality and service to humanity which are also the emblem of our civilization.
He suggested that a nursing department should also be established in every medical
university.
The
President pointed out that one of the responsibilities of universities is to
produce specialists in line with the local environment by promoting research in
the fields of diagnostics and treatment. It is indeed a matter of pleasure that
BMU is playing commendable role in this respect, he added. He stressed that our
educational and research institutions of medicine should focus on encouraging
the culture of simplicity and ease in the field of treatment so that the lower
strata of the society could also easily avail the opportunity of treatment of
complex diseases. He stated that this objective can be achieved by transforming
the research being conducted in other parts of the world in accordance with the
native environment. He said that Baqai Medical University and other medical
institutions can play a leading role in these matters.
The
President stated that apart from lack of medical facilities in far-flung and
underdeveloped areas of the country, ignorance to the principles of hygiene is
also a major problem. In the developed societies, responsible citizens, social
and charitable organizations also perform this duty in addition to the
Government, he added. He appreciated that Baqai Medical University (BMU) is
promoting this great practice in Pakistan. He underscored that attracting the
students of the university towards community service is commendable and has the
status of everlasting endowment. He also called for other educational
institutions to play a role in the service of humanity and society by
encouraging this wonderful convention.
The
President highlighted that completion of great projects like China
Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and One Belt One Road (OBOR) is placing a
huge responsibility on the shoulders of Pakistani youth to serve the country by
utilising these golden opportunities in a befitting manner. In this regard,
health sector is also of great importance because after the full-fledged
operationalization of Gwadar port and CPEC, responsibilities of the physicians
will also increase manifold, he added. He said that you will have to provide
international standard facilities not only to the foreigners but also to our
own nationals. Therefore, he urged that the management of this institution
should plan training of the coming generations keeping in view the future
requirements.
