Every year, Kashmiris observe Black Day, on 27 October,
recalling India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. To mark the Day, a
seminar was organized at the Embassy of Pakistan, Cairo to extend moral and
diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle of Freedom. It
was attended by University Professors, Students, Media Personnel, members of
Pakistan-Egypt Friendship Association and Pakistani Community, says a press
release received from Cairo here today.
The ceremony began
with Recitation from the Holy Quran. The messages of The President and Prime
Minister on the occasion were read out. A short documentary was screened to
sensitize the audience on the issue of Kashmir and human rights violations
committed by Indian occupation forces. Speakers at the seminar included
Scholars, Academicians and Journalist.
Deputy Editor-in-chief of the state-run
Al-Gomhoriya newspaper, El-SayedHany, condemned extra-judicial executions and
violence committed against people in Kashmir, calling on India to abide by UN
resolutions that grants Kashmiris the right to self-determination through
democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite.

FathiYousef, President Pakistan-Egypt Friendship Association called upon the
Indian government to reconsider its stance for the sake of peace in the region
and encouraged the two governments to reach peaceful settlement of the issue.
Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed
Ibrahim, Head of Urdu Department, Al-Azhar University on the occasion expressed that the dispute of Jammu &
Kashmir was the oldest unresolved issues on the agenda of the United Nations.
The non-implementation of the UN Resolutions are not only a big question mark
on the credibility of the UN but also a test for the conscience of the
international community.
Professor Hannah Abdul
Fattah, Al-Azhar University, stressed that Kashmir was an issue of the whole
Muslim Ummah and not of Pakistan only. The Muslim Umma therefore should play
its role to resolve this long standing issue.
H.E. Mushtaq Ali
Shah, Ambassador of Pakistan to Egypt, in his concluding remarks, expressed his satisfaction on large
scale participation of local Students as a show of good-will gesture for
Kashmir cause.“What makes Kashmir different is that you can conquer the land
but not the people- Kashmir is people” he further added.
