PR No.279 Divestment Process Reviewed Islamabad

Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the divestment and privatization process.

The Chairman Privatization Commission (PC) on the occasion briefed the meeting about the future divestment plan and said that opinion of legal experts was sought while finalizing the plan. Matters pertaining to the working of Pakistan Steel also came under discussion.

Chairman PC informed the meeting that the Government of Sind had not responded to the offer made to them for acquiring Pakistan Steel Mills. A reminder was sent which also to date did not elicit any response. The Minister said that the matter may be taken actively with the Government of Sind so that a decision in the matter could be taken accordingly.

The meeting also had further deliberations on different options for restructuring of PIA. The meeting had an in depth review of the legal aspects of the proposed restructuring process.

Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt, SAPM Khwaja Zaheer, SAPM, Barrister Zafarullah, Secretary Finance, Dr. Waqar Masood, Chairman Privatization Commission, Mohammad Zubair and senior officials from Ministry of Finance, PIA and other related departments attended the meeting.
