A delegation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, led by Elder Ronald A. Rasband and Mr. Gerrit W. Gong, called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi, today.
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation to Pakistan and commended the Church for its humanitarian work worldwide. He also thanked the Church for its relief work during the devastating floods in Pakistan in 2010, as well as its ongoing projects in the country.
The SAPM stressed that all religious minorities, including the Christians, were an integral part of the Pakistani society and were making a commendable contribution towards the progress of the country. He emphasized that the Government was fully committed to protecting the rights of minorities, as was evident from the statement of the Prime Minister in Karachi on 12 November 2015, while attending the Diwali celebrations with the Hindu community. He recalled that the Prime Minister has said on the occasion that Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Parsis were all part of this country and he was the Prime Minister of every community. He would stand up for the rights of all, irrespective of their faith.
The SAPM mentioned that these remarks of the Prime Minister were in line with the vision of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The visiting delegates from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints appreciated the efforts aimed at protecting the constitutional rights of the Christian community in Pakistan. The Church delegation also reiterated its commitment to continue its humanitarian work in Pakistan.
