Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Senator Mushahid Hussain has said that the CPEC is the flagship project of the “One Belt, One Road” and this symbolises the resurgence of new Asia based on cooperation, connectivity and corridors. He was addressing the Information Ministers Forum at the China-Eurasia conference in Urumqi. In his speech, Senator Mushahid Hussain said that the initiative of reviving the Silk Road represents the shift in the balance of economic and political power away from the West to the East adding that the Chinese province of Xinjiang, which borders Gilgit-Baltistan, is the future hub of cooperation and connectivity between Europe and Asia.
Thanking China for support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which is spread over 15 years, Senator Mushahid Hussain said that “CPEC is above any person, party, province and it is a strategic national project which seeks to unite the federation of Pakistan through progress and prosperity, particularly in the lesser developed parts of Pakistan like KPK, GB, Balochistan and FATA”.
In his speech, Senator Mushahid Hussain also underlined that in this new emerging Asia in which China is playing a pivotal role, Pakistan is opposed to any attempt at igniting a new Cold War or any proxy wars adding that regional connectivity through economy, energy, education, ports, pipelines, road and rail links was the need of the hour. He said that all Pakistanis had a strong commitment to building CPEC through consensus, transparency and inclusive development.
The conference was also attended by Information Ministers of China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Egypt, Belarus and representatives of Switzerland, Afghanistan and OIC. During his stay in Urumqi, Senator Mushahid Hussain was also a keynote speaker of the Science and Technology Forum of the China-Eurasia conference which was also addressed by the Prime Minister of Tajikistan as well as addressing the Publications and Books Expo which was attended also by the Minister for Film and Publications of China and by book publishers from 16 countries. ?
