The preparations for the 70 Independence
Anniversary of Pakistan kick started at the Pakistan High Commission
London on 7 October 2016 with a luncheon meeting of the potential
sponsors from Pakistani Diaspora including businesses, banks, media
houses and community organizations.
H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK chaired the
meeting and outlined Mission’s plans to celebrate the Anniversary in a
befitting manner, showcasing rich cultural heritage of Pakistan. The
events would include literary events and activities for youth, added the
High Commissioner. He invited the sponsors to select events and execute
them in partnership with the High Commission.
The High Commissioner said: “We have outlined a detailed calendar of
events to celebrate the 70th Independence Anniversary of Pakistan as
well as the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Pakistan
and the UK. The purpose of these celebrations is twofold: to portray the
true face of Pakistan abroad, and to provide the Diaspora with a
platform to celebrate an important milestone in the history of their
country. This cultural setting would be ideal to engage and bring
together our community. Moreover, the events will augment the existing
trade, people to people ties and educational linkages between the two
countries. We expect support from our community to implement our plans. ”
The guests were given a detailed presentation outlining the proposed
calendar of events so that they could choose the events of their liking.
Appreciating High
Commission’s initiative, the participants expressed concrete interest to
support the events. They also put forward valuable suggestions to make
the events successful. The follow up meetings will continue to work out
the modalities.
The High Commission will officially participate in the London New Year Day
Parade on 1st January 2017. This would mark the start of the 70th Anniversary
celebrations of Pakistan in the UK.
