PR No.55 “WE NEED TO PREPARE YOUNG MINDS TO MAKE PAKISTAN GREEN”, ZAHID HAMID ADDRESSED TO PARTICIPANTS OF PRE COP 22 EVENT Islamabad

Ministry of Climate Change organized an event of certificate distribution ceremony of plantation campaign under Green Pakistan Programme to school children who participated in the campaign.

Federal Minister for law, Justice and Climate Change Zahid hamid said that, “Prime Minister of Pakistan approved Green Pakistan Program to conserve forest and wildlife in Pakistan.”

“I really want to appreciate the efforts of these young minds and PIEDAR. These small steps can bring bigger changes. PIEDAR is doing excellent job in environmental education”, stressed by the Minister.

He also highlighted that, “this is first practical initiative of plantation under Green Pakistan Program taken by Ministry of Climate Change with school children. The purpose of this initiative was to prepare young minds to make Pakistan Green. I am really impressed by seeing the enthusiasm and interest of children in Plantation campaign.”

Federal Minister also mentioned that, “Pakistan signed Paris agreement and showed its commitments to implement it. Pakistan is going to participate in COP-22 in this November. This plantation campaign before COP-22 is also a step to prove our commitment and also to show that we are taking concrete steps to create awareness and involving our children. We are trying our level best to ensure excellent participation of Pakistan in COP-22.”

The federal secretary Syed Abu Ahmed Akif welcomed the guests and said, “We are really proud to our young students who made our first effort successful in making Pakistan Green under Green Pakistan Programme. They showed wonderful efforts and contributed in the Plantation Campaign to fulfill our target of plant 100 million trees in the country which will be reached under Green Pakistan programme.”

Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change and Green Pakistan Program Rizwan Mehboob also advised and thanked children and their teachers that, “you have to take care of your planted trees in your Institution and make sure that they are growing and flourished properly. The role teachers is also very important in Green Pakistan Programme  who can educate and motivate  their students very well about the importance of planting a tree. ”

Syed Qutub  Chief Executive of PIEDAR also addressed the participants and said that PIEDAR is working hard for environmental education. The Green Pakistan Programme is great initiative of government of Pakistan. We are happy to become part of this campaign  under Green Pakistan Programme.

This campaign was conducted on 7th and 8th of last month. The total number of schools was seven which include 1:IMS, G-6/2, Hakeem Luqman Road, 2: IMS#1, Street 30, G-8/4, 3:IMS#2, Street 32, G-8/4, 4: I Feel School at IMS#2, 5: IMS#2, Street 7, G-10/2,  6: IMS#1, G,10/2 and 7: I Feel OSC F-11/1, Street73. 153 students  participated in this campaign. Approximately 600 trees were planted in this two days campaign. The survival rate of the trees is about 60%.

The trees planted included Kachnaar, locaat, jaman , amrood, lemon, amaltas, Jacaranda, Hibiscus and fiddlewood trees .

Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change and Green Pakistan Program Rizwan Mehboob , Officers of forest wing  and other officers of Ministry of Climate Change were participated in this Plantation Campaign.
