PR No. 184 MINISTRY OF COMMERCE IS KEEN TO BUILD PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIVATE SECTOR FOR STPF 2015-18 IMPLEMENTATION Islamabad

Right after the announcement of Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2015-18, Ministry of Commerce has embarked on its new initiative of effective dissemination program for business community by holding awareness seminars in partnership with the Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) under USAID. The first such seminar was held at Karachi on 18th August 2016 in collaboration with Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Businessmen and exporters from various sectors participated in the seminar while the Government sector was represented by senior officers from Trade Policy Wing of Ministry of Commerce, State Bank of Pakistan and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Karachi.

The president KCCI welcomed all the participants and appreciated the efforts of the Ministry in the formulation of STPF 2015-18 and also shared his views regarding further improvement in the Policy. Mr. Arsalan Ahmed, Director Trade Policy and Ms. Tayaba Batool, Senior Trade Policy and Research Specialist presented the STPF 2015-18.

The STPF 2015-18 aims at income generation by increasing share in international trade through encouraging SMEs role in export growth by promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns for raising standard of living and ensuring employment generation. The target of STPF is to improve exports competitiveness, transition from factor driven economy to efficiency and innovation driven economy and increasing the share of Pakistan’s exports in regional markets.

Mrs. Raheela Tajwar, D.G. Trade Policy Wing of the Ministry deliberated upon the details of the Policy while responding to various queries of the participants effectively. The seminar concluded with vote of thanks from Mr. Asad Hayauddin, Additional Secretary Ministry of Commerce to USAID, KCCI and all the participants for their valuable inputs.

The central theme of the seminar was to approach and educate the business community and exporters on the provisions of STPF and how can they benefit from the incentives provided in the policy. Around hundred and forty participants from different export sectors attended the awareness seminar. The MoC shared the STPF 2015-18 document and all the SROs in both English and Urdu for a wider understanding.
