PR No. 160 MINISTRY OF COMMERCE IS KEEN TO BUILD PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIVATE SECTOR FOR STPF 2015-18 IMPLEMENTATION Islamabad

For successful formulation and implementation of government policies, constructive collaboration and partnership is necessary among public sector, private sector and academia. To advance this aim, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), after consultation with relevant stakeholders, has recently announced Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF 2015-18) with the major targets of increasing annual exports from 23.66 billion USD as of 2014-15 to 35 billion USD by 30 June 2018, improving exports competitiveness, transition from factor driven economy to innovation driven economy and increasing the share of Pakistan’s exports in regional markets.

In order to realize these targets as provided in the STPF 2015-18, it is necessary that the private sector is approached and educated on the provisions of STPF and how can they benefit from the incentives provided in the policy. To that end, the MoC has translated the STPF 2015-18 and the enforced SROs in Urdu with the assistance of USAID funded Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) and is planning to hold awareness seminars on STPF 2015-18 in different cities of Pakistan with their technical assistance.

The seminars will take place at Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot and Faisalabad on 18, 22, 24 and 26 August respectively. The objectives of the seminars are as under:

It is expected that these seminars will encourage private sector to benefit from the congenial regulatory regime and result in enhanced public private partnership for trade policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
