The Under Secretary General (UN) for Field Support to Pakistan Mr. Atual Khare, alongwith three member delegation, called on Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Federal Minister for Defence at Ministry of Defence, Rawalpindi. It may be noted that Pakistan has played a key role in peace keeping missions of United Nation since 1960. Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif highlighted Pakistan Military’s role in UN Peace Keeping program in different parts of world. Minister for Defence stressed on the setting up of Integrated Trauma Care to handle emergencies, as opposed to prevailing practice of units deployed from multiple countries.

Federal Minister also suggested provision of Loan Equipment and Training to smaller and newer Troops Contributing Countries (TCCs). Moreover smaller TCCs can gain experience by imbedding them in Pak Army units deployed in the operational areas and provision of medical care from Pakistan to the UN personnel deployed in Afghanistan.

During the meeting Under Secretary of UN acknowledged the role played Pakistan in Peace Keeping and paid a tribute to those Pakistani peace keepers who have laid down their lives while deployed in UN Missions. He also highlighted that Pakistani peace keepers have been keenly engaged in humanitarian assistance, social services and quick impact projects.

Minister for Defence on the occasion also highlighted importance that Pakistan attaches to the world peace. He said it is a part of a comprehensive approach to conflict prevention and resolution. He suggested area of future consideration to ensure long term sustainability of troops contribution. The atrocities committed by Indian security in Jammu & Kashmir and gross human right violations also came under discussion.
