President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy fraternal ties which are based on common and shared bonds of history, culture, traditions, religion and values. The President conveyed his warmest congratulations to the Turkish leadership and people on their triumph against the assault on democracy on the night of July 15.

The President expressed these views while talking to Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday.

The President noted that Pakistan was one of the first countries to strongly and unequivocally condemn the attempted coup and express its unflinching support and solidarity for President Erdogan and democracy in Turkey.  President Mamnoon Hussain admired the remarkable spirit and tenacity of the Turkish people who came out instantly in defense of democracy and said that the Pakistani people are proud of their Turkish brethren.

President Mamnoon Hussain expressed deep condolences over the loss of precious lives during the recent mutiny and the terrorist attack at the Ataturk International Airport.

The President said that Pakistan and Turkey have a long-standing tradition of supporting each other on their respective national issues such as Cyprus and Jammu and Kashmir at all international forums and appreciated Turkey’s steadfast support on the issue of Kashmir.  The President called for resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu thanked the government and the people of Pakistan for strongly supporting the cause of democracy in Turkey during the recent failed coup attempt.  He said that Turkey highly values its bilateral relations with Pakistan and expressed his resolve to further strengthen them.  He assured that Turkey will continue to support Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and reiterated his country’s support for Pakistan’s efforts in establishing peace and stability in the region.  The Foreign Minister said that Turkey has always been supporting the people of Kashmir for their right to self – determination adding that his country will continue to extend full support to Pakistan for attaining membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

President Mamnoon Hussain asked the Foreign Minister to convey his best wishes to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildrim.  The President wished the visiting dignitary a comfortable and productive stay in Pakistan.
