On the directions of the PM, the Government of Punjab has withdrawn the amendments through an ordinance with a view to enable it for immediate completion of electoral process of local bodies. In order for immediate commencement of the process the advocate general of Punjab appeared before the honorable Chief Justice Lahore high court and prayed for declaring the various petitions filed by different political parties as infructous after withdrawal of amendments .The case has been fixed for third August for early hearing and disposal .

The PM has personally directed the CM to supervise and oversee the completion of the process and asked the CM to ensure that the local representatives elected by the people are fully empowered for performing their assigned functions and also should be given more authority through devolution to address the local needs of common citizens through elected representatives.
