Ministry of National Health Services has welcomed the action taken by National Accountability Bureau against companies fleecing the public through illegal price hike of drugs and recovery of Rs. 385.1 Million from the accused.
A spokesman said the cases pertained to tenure of previous government. Since the incumbent government has taken office an all out effort has been made to ensure that drugs are provided to the masses at affordable prices; the spokesman added.
The spokesman recalled that taking cognizance of exercise of discretion in regard to drug pricing in the past, this government for the first time in the country’s history introduced a Drug Pricing Policy where discretion in fixing prices was altogether done away with and a Consumer Price Index based system was introduced.
Spokesman reiterated commitment of the government to continue to take strict action against elements and companies resorting to illegal price hike, to safeguard the interest of the public.
All support was provided to NAB in pursuing this case and the Ministry will be providing any further assistance required by the agency. The action the spokesperson added will serve as a determent and discourage elements involved in illegal price hike of drugs.
