PR NO.187 SAPM MR. SYED TARIQ FATEMI RECEIVES ONTARIO MPP DR. SHAFIQ QAADRI Islamabad

Mr. Shafiq Qaadri, a distinguished Canadian of Pakistani origin, who is a Member of the Provincial Parliament and Advisor to the Premier of Ontario Province, Canada, called on Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Foreign Affairs today. In his welcome remarks, the SAPM felicitated Mr. Qaadri on his appointment as head of the “Liberal-Pakistani Friendship Group” formed by the Premier of Ontario and described it as a testimony to the remarkable community services of Mr. Qaadri.

During the meeting, the SAPM briefed Mr. Qaadri on the policies of the government. While highlighting the significance that the current government attaches to the Pakistan Diaspora world over, the SAPM appreciated the political, economic and cultural contribution of around 400,000 strong and vibrant Pakistani community in Canada. Mr. Fatemi also urged Mr. Shafiq Qaadri to play a pro-active role in easing the Canadian visa regime for Pakistani traders and businessmen and noted that the current travel advisory for Pakistan hinders promotion of relations between the two countries.

In turn, Mr. Qaadri briefed the SAPM on the recent political and economic developments in Ontario and the role of Canadians of Pakistani origin in the Canadian economy and society. While expressing confidence in the current level of cooperation between the two countries, Mr. Shafiq Qaadri assured the SAPM that he would continue to promote bilateral relations between the two countries, for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries.
