Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan Chairs High-Level Review Meeting on Pakistan Post; Directs Comprehensive Restructuring and Digital Transformation

Islamabad: October 27, 2026

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the operational framework, financial standing, and core challenges facing Pakistan Post, at Pakistan Post Office Department (PPOD), today, emphasizing the urgent imperative of modernizing the national postal service to ensure its long-term viability and self-sustainability.

During the meeting, Federal Secretary for Communications and the Director General of Pakistan Post presented a detailed briefing on the department’s current operational deficit, administrative overheads, and historical obligations. The meeting reviewed the impact of uncompensated public services provided in the past, as well as the financial strain resulting from past staff recruitments in 2023, underscoring the need for a balanced and sustainable fiscal plan.

Addressing the forum, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted that the digital transformation of postal operations is essential in today’s competitive service environment. Expressing concern over past delays in implementing digitization initiatives—including progress regarding collaboration with EXIM Bank—he underscored that timely execution is critical to institutional progress. He noted that an initial phase focusing on 86 major post offices could have served as a strong foundation for broader modernization.

"To secure the future and livelihoods of Pakistan Post’s 22,000 employees, we must execute a realistic, forward-looking business strategy," stated the Federal Minister. He added that systemic reforms, structural realignments, and enhanced operational efficiency are necessary to transition the organization into a profitable and competitive service entity.

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan directed senior postal officials to formulate a comprehensive, structured reform plan for submission to the Prime Minister. He reiterated that through strategic restructuring, prudent fiscal management, and technology integration, Pakistan Post can successfully adapt to modern market requirements and achieve commercial sustainability.
