Pakistan Customs, through the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Hyderabad, has intensified its anti-smuggling operations by actively utilising the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tracking App to monitor the movement of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) products. The digital tracking system is being employed to identify suspicious movements, verify transportation records and detect discrepancies in the documentation accompanying POL consignments.
During three separate operations, the Anti-Smuggling Units of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Hyderabad detained three oil tankers carrying a combined quantity of approximately 20,000 litres of petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) after identifying discrepancies requiring further investigation.
The tankers were detained after their tracking records were found unavailable on the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) portal. Other discrepancies included unexplained delays in transit, broken or apparently tampered seals, and inconsistencies between the consignees mentioned on delivery invoices and the actual locations where the consignments were being offloaded. The approximate value of the cases has been assessed at Rs. 40 million.
These enforcement actions highlight the importance of digital monitoring in detecting irregularities, verifying the movement of POL consignments and strengthening intelligence-led enforcement. Pakistan Customs is actively leveraging the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tracking App to enhance field surveillance, identify suspicious transportation patterns and curb the illicit movement of petroleum products.
The detained vehicles and consignments remain subject to verification and further legal proceedings in accordance with the law. Pakistan Customs reaffirmed its commitment to combating smuggling, safeguarding legitimate supply chains and ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
