JUNAID ANWAR CHAUDHRY CALLS FOR EXPANDED PORT SERVICES TO ATTRACT TRADE

Islamabad: October 16, 2026

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has called for the provision of maximum port-related services to attract trade, improve cargo handling and increase port throughput.

Chairing a pre-board meeting of the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) in Islamabad on Friday, the minister stressed the need to ensure the implementation of the port’s master plan and develop a mechanism to regulate port-related businesses.

The meeting was attended online by PQA Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Syed Moazzam Ilyas, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, including Additional Secretary Umar Zaffar Shaikh.

During the meeting, the PQA chairman briefed participants on the port’s business plan, which is being developed in line with the government’s Uraan Pakistan initiative, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the directives of the Federal Minister.

The proposed plan aims to advance the port’s strategic objectives through projects designed to enhance trade, improve cargo-handling capacity and increase overall throughput.

The meeting also reviewed updates on the sports policy, the proposed cricket ground and the construction of an underwater tank.
