Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Advocate Amjad Hussain and Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman specially attended the meeting and gave detailed briefings on the political, constitutional, legal, administrative and economic issues confronting Gilgit-Baltistan.
Minister of State for Law & Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, secretaries of the relevant ministries and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
The meeting held a detailed review of various options for resolving the political, constitutional, legal and economic issues of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The participants discussed the need for practical measures to ensure effective political and economic rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, their meaningful participation in national life and the development of the region.
Federal Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, addressing the meeting, said that effective participation of Gilgit-Baltistan in national life is a priority of the government. He said the committee was examining various options for resolving the issues of Gilgit-Baltistan and consultations were underway with the government, the leadership of Gilgit-Baltistan and other relevant stakeholders.
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Advocate Amjad Hussain stressed the need to further strengthen the constitutional and legal identity of Gilgit-Baltistan. He said a comprehensive and sustainable framework was essential for resolving the issues confronting Gilgit-Baltistan.
Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman said that the views and aspirations of the people should be taken into consideration in finding a constitutional solution for Gilgit-Baltistan. He said that all stakeholders were united in resolving the issues of the region.
The meeting also discussed the economic and financial needs of Gilgit-Baltistan, energy, tourism, natural resources, revenue, connectivity and other related matters.
The meeting also sought proposals from the relevant authorities and the leadership of Gilgit-Baltistan regarding immediate issues and practical measures for their resolution.
